About the award
The Warren Tickle Memorial Award goes to a young Insurance Broker who exhibits an outstanding level of professionalism and integrity.
This trophy began in 1990 and is awarded in honour of Warren Tickle, a former Insurance Commissioner and insurance lecturer. He was the Commissioner responsible for the implementation of the Insurance (Agents & Brokers) Act 1984.
Warren's early insurance career was at Sun Alliance and it is the present day company, VERO that sponsors the trophy.
The winner of the Warren Tickle Memorial Award is selected from 5 finalists who are chosen as the Young Professional of the Year in their region:
- NSW/ACT
- VIC/TAS
- SA/NT
- WA
- QLD
The state winners will attend a personal development workshop in Sydney as well as attend the NIBA Convention where the overall winner is announced. All costs for attendance are met by the sponsor including airfare, registration and accommodation.
This year’s national winner will receive a trip to London including two economy airfares, five nights accommodation, a three day educational program to experience the international insurance market and spending money.

How to participate in the Warren Tickle Memorial Award
Eligibility
To be eligible to enter the award candidates must:
- Be Under 35 years old at the 31 December of the year in which they are entering;
- Be a member of NIBA College and hold the designation of Associate, QPIB or QFSR;
- Hold a full Diploma of Financial Services (Insurance Broking) or equivalent;
- Have spent a minimum of 3 of the last 5 years in Australia;
Previous winners will not be eligible for the award but past entrants to the award are able to re-enter.
Entrants must be available to travel to Sydney for two days for the personal development workshop and judging for the National winner, as well as attending the NIBA Convention. Airfares and accommodation costs are met by NIBA and Vero.
Award criteria
Candidates should provide evidence of exceptional service in the Insurance Broking industry demonstrating:
- A commitment to the development and the promotion of the Insurance Broking industry,
- A commitment to his/her personal development,
- Outstanding contributions towards the team in which he/she works,
- Comments to the degree to which the community has benefited as a whole from the nominee’s activities, and
- An understanding of the history of the industry and of the history of this award.
Submission requirements
All Nominations should provide a submission that includes the following
- Nomination Form with Reference Letter attaining to the professionalism and integrity of the Nominee
- Candidates Academic Record
- Career Resume
- 1-2 Underwriter References
- 1-2 Client References
- Personal Statement (1000 words or less) outlining notable achievements and explaining how the nominee meets the award criteria.
All submitted must be emailed to wtma@niba.com.au by the close of business on the 30th of April 2010. All entries must include the coversheet and meet the award criteria and evidence requirements. |
