Insurance Brokers celebrate 25 years of NIBAThe National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) will officially launch its 25th anniversary celebrations at its Annual Convention on the Gold Coast on Sunday. The launch kicks off a year of festivities celebrating NIBA’s vibrant history over the past quarter of a century. The event will attract more than 900 NIBA members and insurance professionals from across Australia, and includes presentations by industry heavyweights Frank O’Halloran, Chief Executive of QBE, and Willis Global Chief Executive Joe Plumeri. NIBA Chief Executive Noel Pettersen said the organisation has much to celebrate in remembering its past and contemplating its future. “NIBA has had a marked impact on the Australian insurance scene,” he said. “This year celebrates our rich past, our strengths and, importantly, our ongoing focus on the industry’s future. “Back in 1982 the newly formed association was the most important leap forward for broker intermediaries in Australian insurance history,” he said. “Since then NIBA has lobbied governments, influenced many legislative changes and worked tirelessly to enhance the value of brokers in business and the community generally.” Formed by the merger of the Insurance Brokers Association of Australia and the Confederation of Insurance Brokers of Australia, NIBA now represents more than 2600 individual intermediaries from about 500 separate brokerages. It has also been at the forefront of broker education by creating one of the first broker-specific accreditations in the world. NIBA has taken great effort to involve past presidents in its silver anniversary. Two of the industry’s founding fathers, Lex McKeown, will present an award named in his honour, while Ian Abell will be on hand to announce the NIBA General Insurer of the Year. The Warren Tickle Memorial Award for the industry’s most outstanding young broker will also be announced. ENDS For further information contact Noel Pettersen on 02 9459 4300 NIBA is an independent industry association representing 500 firms and more than 2600 intermediaries, who handle almost 90% of the commercial insurance transacted in Australia.
