NIBA recognises top young insurance broker
Western Australian insurance broker Ward Dedman was yesterday awarded the 2007 Warren Tickle Memorial Award at the 25th Annual NIBA Convention on the Gold Coast.
A General Manager at EBM Insurance Brokers in Perth, Mr Dedman was described as a trustworthy and reliable professional with a reputation for building solid business relationships.
NIBA Chief Executive Noel Pettersen says Mr Dedman is a great young ambassador for the insurance broking industry.
“He typifies what can be achieved by approaching your job with dedication,” he said.“Like many of the young emerging brokers coming through the ranks of our industry, Ward exhibits an outstanding level of professionalism and integrity.”
This year’s award is especially significant as the format of the judging has changed to better reflect the high standard of nominees in each state.
Mr Pettersen said: “This year’s nominees went through a rigorous nomination and judging process as well as personal development training aimed at making them better business people.”
First awarded in 1990, the accolade is named in honour of the late Warren Tickle, the first General Insurance Commissioner and insurance lecturer, and a strong advocate for broker education.
Other finalists included Kevin Baker (Victoria), Dean Brumby (Queensland), Ian Furby (South Australia) and Angela San Diego (New South Wales).

NIBA is an independent industry association representing 500 firms and more than 2600 intermediaries, who handle almost 90% of the commercial insurance transacted in Australia. Brokers play a major role in insurance distribution, handling $10 billion in premiums annually and placing around half of Australia’s total insurance business.
