NIBA celebrates 25 years heading in the right direction

The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) commemorated its 25th anniversary in Sydney on Tuesday with the launch of “The Right Direction”, a book recording the history of the broker association from its formation to current day.

The book, dedicated to the late Stuart Leslie – considered the founding father of the association – was officially launched by former president Bob Elder with past chief executives, board members and presidents in attendance.

Current NIBA Chief Executive Noel Pettersen said the founding fathers would be proud to know their expectations for NIBA a quarter of a century ago have been realised.

“We have a highly professional and sophisticated organisation that is recognised everywhere as representing the interests of Australian insurance brokers.

“Over the past twenty-five years, NIBA has achieved much in the face of continuous change in the insurance sector,” he said.“We have weathered tough legislative demands, adapted to the expectations of our clients and transformed our members into very sophisticated, highly trained professionals.”

The book is being distributed to all NIBA members, local and overseas industry associations, politicians, regulators, libraries and insurer partners.

NIBA is an independent industry association representing 500 firms and more than 2600 intermediaries, who handle almost 90% of the commercial insurance transacted in Australia. Brokers play a major role in insurance distribution, handling $10 billion in premiums annually and placing around half of Australia’s total insurance business.
