Formed in 1982 as a result of a merger of two earlier broker associations, NIBA’s mission is to constantly identify, meet and represent member needs and expectations with excellence and enthusiasm. A key aim of the Association is to assist its members to embrace and adopt high standards of professional competence and conduct.This ensures they are able to deliver high standards of service and expertise to those who rely on them for insurance and risk advice.

Principal Membership of NIBA are companies, trusts, partnerships or sole traders working as a general, life or reinsurance brokerage or underwriting agency.Currently there are around 500 NIBA member firms operating from around 780 locations nationwide. Members benefit from access to lobbying, marketing, education, technical and information services and regularly participate in industry discussions and research activities.

Individuals

NIBA has established NIBA College of Insurance and Risk Professionals to provide professional memberships to individual practitioners.The College is also the primary education and training body for the sector. The College has around 2,500 practitioner members that have attained the designation Qualified Practising Insurance Broker (QPIB) – recognised as the industry standard for fully competent brokers. All NIBA broker member firms are managed by a practitioner who has reached QPIB status as a minimum.

All NIBA Principal Members and members of NIBA College get access to dedicated Member’s only section's of the website where you can administer your membership activities.

As an individual industry participant you do not have to be a NIBA member to use many of the NIBA College educational services. For example, once you become a registered user of the College website you can use it to:

  • Attend a professional development seminar or industry conference
  • Enroll in a nationally recognised qualification
  • Attend an industry networking or social event
  • Complete an online training course.
