Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS)

This is a free consumer service designed to handle complaints and help resolve problems between clients and their insurance brokers, and some other financial service providers (other than insurance companies). FOS provides support in helping you resolve problems quickly and efficiently, without having to resort to costly litigation. You can contact FOS if you have a problem with your insurance broker or financial adviser regarding any of the following types of policy:

  • life
  • sickness and accident
  • consumer credit
  • travel
  • motor vehicle
  • home buildings and contents
  • personal and domestic property
  • small "business pack" policies

All brokers who are FOS members subscribe to the General Insurance Brokers Code of Practice. The Code describes the standards of good practice you should expect from your insurance broker or financial services provider Copies of the Code are available from your insurance broker or financial service provider, from NIBA and from FOS.
