Brokers on Top in the 'Top End'

The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) is preparing to host more than 700 broker delegates and insurance industry professionals from across Australia at the 26th NIBA Convention in Darwin this weekend.

Themed “Brokers on Top”, the event will include presentations by General Peter Cosgrove and country singer and current Australian of the Year Lee Kernaghan. Technical presentations covering a wide range of industry and business issues have also attracted the industry’s leaders and up-and-comers.

NIBA Chief Executive Noel Pettersen said the three-day convention program is rich in diversity and is tailored to suit the needs of both Young Professionals and veterans of the industry.

“The intention is to provide delegates, regardless what stage of their careers they are at, with practical ideas and new approaches that they can take back to their offices,” he said.

In contrast to last year’s convention that celebrated the association’s past, NIBA is looking firmly towards the future of insurance broking, and to a new and exciting destination like Darwin.

“Darwin is one of Australia’s best kept secrets,” Mr Pettersen said. “We’ve embraced the local culture and superb climate by hosting several major activities under the stars and we’ve combined this with some first-class entertainment.”

The event runs from September 20-23 and starts with the presentation of the Warren Tickle Memorial Award, the Lex McKeown Trophy and the coveted General Insurer of the Year Award at the official opening ceremony on Sunday morning.

NIBA is an independent industry association representing 500 firms and more than 2600 intermediaries, who handle almost 90% of the commercial insurance transacted in Australia. Brokers play a major role in insurance distribution, handling $10 billion in premiums annually and placing around half of Australia’s total insurance business.

"The Brumby Labor Government is taking the tough decisions and doing the hard work to keep Victoria fire ready and safe," Mr Lenders said.
