Insurance & Risk Professional, October 2008

NIBA is continually developing its services to ensure that members have the tools to keep pace with constant change. As announced at the convention in Darwin, we are pleased to launch of the next big step for NIBA. For some time now the NIBA Board has been considering changes to the membership structure and ways to expand our QPIB system to better meet our industry’s professional needs in the future.

These changes will enable insurance brokers to achieve the goals they have told us are their priority – building workforce capability and delivering excellent client service.

NIBA College membership.
The role of NIBA College will be expanded to incorporate individual College membership. Previously only principal members could access NIBA services. Now individual members of NIBA College will be able to reach an expanded range of services.

There will also be two levels of College membership – General or Practitioner – aligned to the qualification level reached, relevant industry experience and CPD participation. The changeover for this will be January 2009. All principal memberships of NIBA will remain unchanged.

QPIB system expansion
The pre-eminent QPIB designation was introduced in the early 1990s because brokers were seeking to enhance their professionalism in an increasingly complex marketplace. The need for this standard is even more important today. As such, NIBA has expanded the QPIB system to include a new “Certified Professional Insurance Broker” designation to reflect the increasing professionalism of our industry. This is an optional program for QPIBs.

The Certified Professional Insurance Broker (CPIB) classification does not replace the QPIB but provides a wider level of recognition for senior QPIBs who want to build on their professional skills. The CPIB program is not about formal study but about professional development.

It is an intense career development course based upon skill and capability of the highest order. That’s why principal members should encourage QPIBs to sign up for the new CPIB program to obtain greater professional recognition for their business and for their staff. The CPIB program will commence in January 2009.

New identity and tools
An updated image and identity has also been developed. The new NIBA College image communicates that the College is the pathway to excellence for a professional insurance broking career.

Website access and navigation
When you visit either NIBA or NIBA College websites you will find there is now improved navigation and accessibility.

Overall, these changes provide greater access to NIBA and NIBA College services and help insurance brokers establish their credentials in a similar way to other key groups in the professional community.

We can have a high degree of confidence for the future because it’s the future that NIBA has firmly in mind for our members.
