Far North Queensland weather conditions

Heavy rainfalls in FNQ over the last 24hrs have caused minor to moderate flooding between Cooktown and Townsville and further flooding is expected as waters move south towards Townsville. This inundation could continue for some weeks as flood waters move through the river systems.

Losses are expected to be widespread and governments have asked the Insurance Council to support the State Disaster Coordination Group.
CAT 091 has been declared for FNQ.

TC Charlotte has crossed the coast near Gilbert River Mouth, and has weakened to a severe tropical low.

There were no reports of significant damage and fears from an anticipated storm surge have not been realised. Strong winds and wave damage are expected to continue producing abnormally high tides. There have been some reports of heavy industry carrying out precautionary shutdowns in preparation for further flooding.
