Insurance Broker recognised for pursuit of excellenceA hard-working woman has won insurance broking’s highest award for outstanding achievement after just nine years in the industry. The Lex McKeown Trophy was presented to Emilie Webster of Grampians Insurance Brokers, Ararat, Victoria, at the opening day of the National Insurance Brokers Association’s (NIBA) 27th Annual Convention at Sydney’s Darling Harbour. Announcing the award, NIBA President Steve Lardner, said Emilie was a credit to the insurance industry, the broking profession and an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She had begun working for an insurance broker in rural Victoria as a part time receptionist. But her employer soon recognised her talent and she became a Qualified Practising Insurance Broker in 2003, winning the Regional Insurance Brokers Award of Excellence in the same year. Emilie became the company manager in 2004 and now manages an all female brokerage, while also being recently appointed as a member of NIBA’s national education committee. “Throughout her career she has continued her pursuit of excellence, despite having to rise around 5am each morning to study, and then driving around every corner of Victoria calling on clients. A true believer in ‘doing things right’, she is a passionate supporter of broker education and ongoing training. She completed Certificate III and then her advanced diploma through NIBA College in record time. “To top it off, she will be Australia’s first recipient of a Graduate Diploma in Insurance Broking which she recently completed in under one year which is quite amazing. Her coursework has been outstanding and highly praised by the examiners. She is recognised as one of the brightest talents in the industry and her hard work has earned the highest esteem of her peers,” Mr Lardner said.
