NT broker wins Insurance Brokers' young professional award

A broker from Darwin has won the 2009 Warren Tickle Memorial Award for the insurance broking industry’s Outstanding Young Professional.

Elias Anictomatis was presented with the award at the 27th Annual National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) Convention being held at Sydney’s Darling Harbour.

Presenting the award, NIBA President, Steve Lardner, said that judging had been taking place around Australia over the last six months to select outstanding young brokers to represent their region.

The winner was chosen by NIBA’s Education Committee and a representative from award sponsor, Vero Insurance, after two intensive days of specialised personal development for the four finalists on the eve of the Convention.

Now a senior account executive with Marsh in Darwin, Elias commenced his working career with an insurance company before crossing over to broking in 1997. He also had a stint with Marsh in London, working on insurance placements for some of the world’s largest construction projects.

“It is an enormous accolade for a young professional broker to receive this award,” he said.

“This is all about developing the industry leaders of tomorrow and the new format we introduced in 2007, where a Young Professional of the Year is now selected in five regions, further enhances the recognition of insurance broker professionalism,” Mr Lardner said.

The award was first made in 1990 to recognise the late Warren Tickle’s lifelong drive for industry education. He went on to become Australia’s first Insurance Commissioner and also lectured in insurance.

Other finalists were Mathew Korff representing NSW/ACT, Robert Richards representing Tas/Victoria and Lana Rose representing Qld.

"The Brumby Labor Government is taking the tough decisions and doing the hard work to keep Victoria fire ready and safe," Mr Lenders said.
