QBE wins Brokers' accolade again

For the eighth time, QBE Insurance Australia has won the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) General Insurer of the Year award.

Based on the votes of about 2,500 NIBA Qualified Practising Insurance Brokers, the 2009 award was presented to QBE at NIBA’s 27th Annual Convention, being held at Sydney’s Darling Harbour.

NIBA President, Steve Lardner, said brokers were asked to nominate the general insurer they considered performed best overall on the 10 most important service and product factors. Only national insurers operating in the broker market were eligible for inclusion in the award.

The ratings were analysed independently, with the winner being the general insurer which received the highest number of nominations.

“This is the greatest acknowledgment of excellence an insurer in our sector can receive, and for QBE to win it yet again is testament to the level of service its staff have provided to the broking community in a very competitive environment over a long period,” Mr Lardner said.

QBE’s Executive General Manager, Intermediary Distribution, Colin Fagen, said the company greatly valued the award.

“We recognise that successful partnerships are the basis for this award and QBE values the relationships we have with brokers throughout the country,” he said.

Mr Lardner also congratulated the other two finalists, Allianz Australia Insurance and Zurich Financial Services Australia.

NIBA is an independent industry association representing 500 firms and more than 2600 intermediaries, who handle almost 90% of the commercial insurance transacted in Australia. Brokers play a major role in insurance distribution, handling $10 billion in premiums annually and placing around half of Australia’s total insurance business.
