Aspire to be the Best!
Insurance & Risk Professional, February 2010 It’s a new decade and NIBA is poised yet again to take its place in shaping policy, providing education and training, settings standards, building community, creating partnerships and much more. As we begin 2010, be assured that NIBA is operating from a solid financial base with strong reserves, with competent staff, dedicated committees and a passion to make things happen in our exciting industry in the years ahead. Working hard for our members is only part of what is necessary. Listening to them, getting to know what they care about and then providing them with what they need are all vital. The following year will be one of consolidation, review and inspiration We’ve been surveying members continually and feedback from our ‘call & care’ and Sundowner visits has been taken to heart [see page xx]. We will be looking at ways to better service brokers and their staff and provide answers to their questions about how to make the broking world more productive and more professional. First up, we will be reviewing our membership base and challenging traditional mindsets so that we can better plan and budget realistically for the future. For instance, how do authorised representatives fit into NIBA’s membership structure? Where necessary, we will implement changes to save businesses time and make it more cost-effective to access our services. Young professionals We will also be looking out for opportunities to nurture the next generation of the broking profession. They have a lot of confidence. They are keen to learn and NIBA is keen to advance their cause. NIBA is also about connecting people and helping people work. We will also review all of the ways in which NIBA has come into its own, capitalising on strengths of the past and developing a sense of purpose for the future. We live in an age of uncertainly, complexity and rapid change. Yet the maturing of the insurance broking profession has been impressive. We all take pride in the things we do. The only real threat is complacency. So if there is a message for 2010, let’s all aspire to be the best, find simplicity out of the clutter and live in harmony with others in the wider community. After all, we’re all in this together. - ENDS - |
