Tips on making your entry stand out

By Linda Evans, Professional Development Executive at NIBA College

  • Map out your personal statement to ensure that you outline your approach to each of the key areas. Give some brief examples to show you have thought about the issues. You can expand on these in later interviews with the judging panel.
  • Think about the people that you have been role models and mentors and comment on how they have helped your professional development.
  • The judging panel is also interested in your community involvement as well as your technical broking expertise so think broadly about how some of the outside activities you are involved in can assist you in your broking role.
  • Think carefully about asking for your underwriter and client references. The judging panel wants to see how you have tailored your approach in dealing with each underwriter and client rather than just reading standard references.
  • Present your CV in an easy-to-read format with all the key roles highlighted and a brief outline of the related functions.
  • Get someone to read through your submission before you send it in – they can help you find spelling errors and give you some hints about whether the  information you have included is clear and makes sense.
