Marsh volunteers

Volunteers from Marsh have been out and about to make a positive difference as part of the broking firm’s Community & Environment Program.

On 15 March, nine Marsh volunteers headed out to Westgate Park in Melbourne, joined by a group of intellectually impaired adults, from Central Bayside Community Health Services. They worked together in the garden, planting new trees and distributing mulch.

Despite the hot conditions and sore hands, eight truck loads of mulch were successfully moved onto the garden beds. All agreed it was a rewarding day and the plants survived.

One volunteer commented that the best part of the program was “the fact that it covered many facets – being outside, helping the environment, getting some dirt under my fingernails and meeting the group of young people with intellectual disabilities. They were a delightful bunch!”

About the program
The Marsh Community and Environment Program aims to make a sustainable contribution to the vulnerable and disadvantaged in the community as well as taking measures that foster the sustainability of the environment.

The program enables Marsh colleagues to make pre-tax donations from their pay and for those donations to be matched by Marsh.

Staff are also able to take one day of paid volunteering leave per annum. So far, volunteer days have included helping long-term unemployed through Juno Consulting and the Salvation Army, as well as assisting the Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies (CERES) in Melbourne.

Additionally, Marsh supports a range of charities at a local level and provides national support for events such as Movember, Jeans for Genes, Biggest Morning Tea and the Mother’s Day Classic.
