The 2017 winner of the QBE-sponsored Stephen Ball Memorial Award for Broker of the Year, Brett Piggott of Willis Temby Insurance Brokers in Perth believes that the award has assisted fast-tracking a number of his career goals and has added new exciting ones into the mix.
He feels that the insurance broking profession is all about people and the recognition from the industry of professional commitment and accomplishment contributes greatly to an intermediary’s professional development.
Piggott says, “The award has provided me with the opportunity to participate in industry educational events, which strongly align with my belief in the importance of mentoring and being charitable with your time back into the industry and the broader community. This has further increased my professional profile, and provided me with both personal and professional development opportunities.”
Additionally he credits the entire process for aiding the growth of his career, “The nomination and interview process makes you deeply reflect on your involvement in the industry and highlights areas you have enjoyed and those that you need to improve on.”
The winner of the Stephen Ball Memorial Award receives a prize valued in the region of $20,000 and the QBE team liaises with them to design a development program that aligns with their objectives.
Of his tailor-made prize Piggott says, “From day one, QBE were very supportive in allowing me time to reflect on what aspects I would like to improve on and develop. They were very compassionate towards my wish for the prize to reflect a mix of personal and professional development.”
He encourages employers and managers with talented staff to nominate deserving candidates, “The NIBA awards are recognised within our industry as a pinnacle of professional achievement. It is a third party nominated award and provides an opportunity to nominate a deserving work colleague or industry peer.”
“I ask anyone who is privileged to be working with or managing exceptional individuals to embrace the opportunity to nominate and support the process. Not only will it be rewarding for the individual to be recognised by their peers, but also for you and your firm to be held in high regard by the individual.”
