The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) wants the State Government to scrap the way it funds Victoria's fire services.
A state levy is charged on property insurance to help finance the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and Metropolitan Fire Brigade.
VFF president Simon Ramsay says the levy is unfair and penalises people who insure their homes.
He says the Government has decided not to charge uninsured homeowners for firefighting costs from the recent fires.
"So it makes a mockery of the whole Government position in relation to funding [the] CFA and we strongly are advocating that we remove that fire service levy which is actually a deterrent for people to take out insurance and that the community should pay either through tax or local government for that service," he said.
