In a hardening insurance market, the ability to negotiate with both underwriters and clients is more critical to the role of a broker than ever.
In recognition of this, NIBA NSW YP and CGU Insurance will present a half-day Negotiation Skills Masterclass on 22nd May. This workshop will provide young insurance professionals with the knowledge and practical skills needed to negotiate successful outcomes with clients and underwriters. Topics will include:
- Analysis of best and worst approaches to negotiation
- Theory and process – modelling the negotiation framework
- Negotiation tactics and practical tools
- Breakout session - practical exercise with live feedback and group discussion
By focusing on a topic relevant to the current market, attendance offers a great opportunity for YPs to strongly position themselves for success in a challenging environment.
This workshop will be presented by two leading insurance industry sales professionals, Jeff Graham and Stuart Lowden. Jeff and Stuart are CGU’s Senior Managers of Sales Capability & Development, and bring a wealth of international sales and service coaching experience, along with a passion for teaching young insurance professionals best practice sales, retention and negotiation strategies.
The session will provide 4 CPD points, and a light networking lunch will be served afterwards.

Stuart has over 38 years insurance experience spanning four states of Australia. Stuart’s focus is on sales and business development. He has spent the past few years specialising in Sales Capability Uplift, working with people leaders to help make their teams the best they can be.
Jeff has worked in the Insurance industry for over 40 years. His career has included a diverse number of roles across Australia including underwriting, claims, sales, marketing, operations, planning, relationship management and line management. Jeff’s focus for the past several years has centred on people development with a focus on Sales Capability Uplift.
