$150 Million Rolled Out to Assist Those Impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred
The Australian Government has provided more significant financial assistance to individuals impacted by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred in Queensland and New South Wales, ensuring crucial support reaches affected communities swiftly.
Through Services Australia, over 200,000 claims have been processed for Queensland residents, with more than $130 million distributed via the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) and the Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA). In New South Wales, over 30,000 claims have been approved, amounting to more than $21 million in payments.
In addition to financial support, the government has deployed 170 staff members to Queensland and Northern New South Wales, embedding them within 32 recovery centres to provide on-the-ground assistance. A Mobile Service Centre, Desert Rose, has also been stationed in Hervey Bay to ensure residents receive face-to-face support despite flood-affected service centres.
The Australian, Queensland, and New South Wales Governments have also activated additional supports under the jointly funded Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), which include recovery grants and hardship assistance.
Minister for Emergency Management, Senator the Hon Jenny McAllister, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to long-term recovery efforts:
“The Albanese Government was there to prepare and respond to the ex-Tropical Cyclone and now we are there for the recovery. We will stand by and support the affected communities in Northern NSW and SE Queensland. We know that recovery will take time, and we are there for the long haul.”
Residents affected by the disaster can apply for AGDRP and DRA payments online via myGov or through the myGov app. Those needing assistance with claims can call the Australian Government Emergency Information Line at 180 22 66.
