Broking group helps raise tens of thousands for childrens charity

On Friday 25 October, Austbrokers ABS hosted their 8th Annual Charity Ball at Doltone House Hyde Park. The event was attended by 250 clients, staff, and industry partners who collectively raised over $40,000 for the evening’s charity beneficiary, the Children’s Cancer Institute (CCI).

General Manager, Rebecca Wilson said, “The room was emotionally moved by our keynote speaker Luke Rollinson, who shared with us his story of being a childhood cancer survivor, being diagnosed at the age of 18 months with various Retinoblastoma tumours in both of his eyes.

“Luke’s history with cancer was hereditary, and the gene was passed on to his two children, Eli and Harper. Both children are currently in remission, thanks to the work that Children’s Cancer Institute are doing.”

Attendees at the ball dug deep and generously donated to the cause. The funds raised by Austbrokers will allow two children to undergo testing and treatment as part of the  CCI’s Zero Childhood Cancer Personalised Medicine Program. The program uses comprehensive testing, including genomic analysis, drug screening and drug testing to identify personalised treatments for children with  high-risk cancers which have not responded to treatment and who face a less than 30% chance of survival.

Austbrokers ABS works closely with both CCI and the Reach Foundation, with both charities having a focus on the welfare and support of young people. The broking group has  indicated that the beneficiary of next years’ Charity Ball will be the Reach Foundation, a not-for-profit group that delivers personal development workshops and camps to over 40,000 young Australians every year.
