Deadline extended: NSW workers compensation – new Letter of Appointment template

In November 2020, icare developed a new standardised Letter of Appointment (LOA) template to ensure better protection for the privacy of employers and their workers. After consulting with the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) and other industry stakeholders, icare has updated the LOA to better reflect the roles and responsibilities of brokers and employers.

This new LOA is to be used for all new appointments by broking clients from 1 March 2021. NIBA CEO Dallas Booth has thanked all members who have adopted the new standardised LOA template and have submitted their completed LOAs and feedback to icare.

Since December 2020, icare has received a substantial number of LOAs for accounts that require a Cost of Claims report containing personal or health information. icare has recently undertaken an audit and reconciliation of these LOAs, and has identified a large number of outstanding LOAs where the insurance broker needs to receive a Cost of Claims report. icare appreciates the support of all members while they strengthen and refine this new LOA process.

The final submission deadline to submit a completed LOA on the new standardised template, where access to a Cost of Claims report is required has been extended from 15 May 2021 until 31 August 2021. If an insurance broker does not provide an updated LOA to icare by 31 August 2021, they will no longer receive a Cost of Claims report from 1 September 2021.

Further information and a copy of the new standardised Letter of Appointment template is available on the icare website. Please send your completed LOAs to wisupport@icare.nsw.gov.au, and copy in wireporting@icare.nsw.gov.au. Also, ensure that the customer policy/reference number and your name are visible in the subject line. You can access our previous coverage of this issue here.
