In May, we heard from a passionate advocate of the NIBA Mentoring Program: Jeff Murdoch, past Director of Emjay Insurance Brokers, 2017 Lex McKeown Trophy Recipient and valued Program Mentor since its inception back in 2013.
Jeff's journey in the insurance sector has been nothing short of inspiring, marked by resilience, innovation, and a commitment to excellence. His involvement in the program inspired him to work with younger people and help advance their careers which was a truly rewarding experience.
As highlighted in the "Challenge Your Thinking" article in the May edition of Insurance Advisor Magazine, Jeff shared his insights on the power of mentorship in shaping successful careers and emphasised its transformative impact on navigating the complexities of the insurance landscape.
“I’ve been part of the NIBA Mentoring Program since its inception. What I learned after doing it a couple of times is that I really enjoyed working with people and helping them advance their careers. The relationships I’ve developed out of it have been truly fantastic. I got the satisfaction out of them enjoying the opportunity to advance their career through my subtle support,” noted Murdoch.
“The first thing that you try to establish is trust. And that’s followed with honesty,” said Murdoch. "We create self-belief through those two combinations. And then you try to support the person in a manner that they can evaluate themselves and are accountable to themselves in the process.”
