NIBA WA Gala Lunch

On Friday 14 July, the eagerly awaited 2023 WA Gala Lunch took place at the Grand Ballroom in Crown Perth. The event provided an opportunity for attendees to network with each other and for the WA broking community to come together and celebrate the achievements of the past year.

The Master of Ceremonies for the event was Peter Curulli. The lunch had speeches from NIBA President Gary Okely and NIBA CEO Philip Kewin before proceeding with the announcement of the WA Young Broker of the Year and Broker of the Year award winners.

The QBE-sponsored 2023 WA Broker of the Year award was awarded to Frans du Plessis from Grace Insurance and the Vero-sponsored 2023 WA Young Broker of the Year award was won by Justin Purslowe from Aviso WA Insurance Brokers.

NIBA CEO Philip Kewin offered his congratulations to the WA winners, adding: “We congratulate Frans and Justin for their outstanding achievement and wish them the very best of luck for the upcoming national awards.” A big thank you to all our sponsors, in particular our Gold sponsors: Allianz, HDI and CGU.

NIBA NSW Gala Lunch

On Wednesday 12 July, the much-anticipated 2023 NSW Gala Lunch took place at The Fullerton Hotel to a packed audience. The event provided an opportunity for attendees to network with each other and for the NSW and ACT broking community to come together and celebrate the achievements of the past year.

The event opened with speeches from NIBA CEO Philip Kewin and NIBA President Gary Okely before proceeding to the keenly awaited announcement of the NSW/ACT Young Broker of the Year and Broker of the Year awards. The QBE-sponsored 2023 NSW/ACT Broker of the Year was awarded to Barry Sonter from Finsura and the Vero-sponsored 2023 NSW/ACT Young Broker of the Year award was won by Joel Morrell from Network Insurance Group.

NIBA CEO Philip Kewin congratulated Barry and Joel, the NSW/ACT winners, adding: “I would like to congratulate Barry and Joel for their win, and wish them all the best as they progress to the national awards in October.” Thank you to all our valued sponsors, in particular our platinum and gold sponsors: Allianz, CHU and CGU.

NIBA VIC Gala Lunch

On Friday 19 May, the highly anticipated 2023 NIBA Vic Gala Lunch took place at Crown Melbourne, drawing a sold-out crowd. The event provided the perfect platform for attendees to connect with peers and be inspired over the remarkable journey of Dr. Dan Pronk, known as The Combat Doctor, who shared his tales of battlefield medicine and resilience.

NIBA / UAC Melbourne Underwriting Expo

After the breakfast seminar, attendees headed to the NIBA / UAC Vic Underwriting Expo.

NIBA Vic YP Breakfast Seminar | The impact of underinsurance and inflation in insurance placement and claims

The Victorian broking community came together at the Crown Melbourne on Friday 19 May for a breakfast seminar which featured an engaging panel discussion on the impacts of inflation and underinsurance facilitated by the members of the Young Professionals Committee.

NIBA Qld YP Seminar | Effective Networking Strategies

The Qld YP Committee hosted a seminar aimed at enhancing professional confidence and credibility by improving networking skills and building valuable alliances. Led by Nikki Heald, Managing Director of Corptraining, the interactive presentation focused on various aspects of networking. Participants learned about the true purpose of networking, generating conversation and small talk, proper networking etiquette, nurturing key alliances beyond exchanging business cards, and recognizing the value of both internal and external networks. The event provided valuable insights into effective networking practices, empowering attendees to establish meaningful business relationships and enhance their long-term career prospects.

 

 

 

NIBA Vic Seminar | Eye on the Horizon

NIBA hosted an informative panel discussion at RACV City Club in Melbourne that focused on what brokers can expect to see in the market in 2023 and beyond. The panel was comprised of experts in placement and broking, including Theresa Lewin from Gallagher, Matt Schinck from Aon, Callum Brown from Comprehensive Insurance Solutions, Mark Chisholm from CGU, and Anita Lane from Solution Underwriting. The panel discussion was facilitated by Kevin Baker, Aon, NIBA Vic/Tas Divisional Committee Chair. NIBA Vic YP Seminar | Marine Insurance with BHSI

The NIBA Vic YP Committee organised a seminar on Marine Insurance, featuring Bosko Kicanovic, a Marine Underwriter from Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance. The event covered various aspects, including an introduction to BHSI, an overview of the global marine industry, different marine risk classes, and a specific focus on cargo insurance. The seminar also delved into topics such as claims, recoveries, the inflation factor, and the challenges faced in supply chain management within the marine insurance sector.

NIBA WA Seminar | Proposed Workers’ Compensation Act changes and WHS legislation amendments

A panel discussion featuring industry experts was held to provide guidance for insurance brokers on advising clients regarding changes in workers' compensation and workplace health and safety (WHS) regulation. The panel members included Alex Lustig, Partner in Insurance & Risk at Jackson McDonald, Renae Harding, Partner in the Workplace Relations and Safety Team at Jackson McDonald, and Stephen Truman, National Risk Manager - People at QBE Insurance. The discussion aimed to offer valuable insights and interactive discussions to help insurance brokers stay informed about the latest developments in this field and effectively navigate the evolving landscape of workers' compensation and WHS regulation.

 

 

 

NIBA Qld Christmas Bowls

The NIBA Qld Christmas Bowls event returned to The Boo once again! As the oldest bowls club in Queensland, established in 1888, The Boo provided a fantastic setting with its contemporary food and friendly atmosphere. Professionals from the intermediated insurance industry gathered to celebrate the end of the year at this memorable event. The highlight of the evening was a friendly tournament of lawn bowls, accompanied by a delicious set meal inclusive of drinks. Attendees had a great time participating in the festivities and enjoying the camaraderie of their colleagues.

 

 

 

NIBA NSW Christmas Bowls

The NIBA NSW Divisional Committee organised their last social event of 2022 at Petersham Bowling Club. The event offered attendees the opportunity to celebrate the end of the year in a fun and engaging way. The highlight of the event was a friendly lawn bowls tournament, accompanied by a grazing buffet lunch including drinks in the late afternoon. It was a great occasion to come together, enjoy some friendly competition, and indulge in delicious food and drinks while bidding farewell to the year.
