As part of her Closing Address, the 2024 NIBA Convention Chair, Di Phelan (Immediate NIBA Past President and Chief Operating Officer, BJS Insurance), highlighted that the insurance broking profession is well-positioned and it was something to acknowledge and be proud of.    

The three-day event featured an excellent range of speakers. Some reaffirmed current views, others imparted new ways of thinking with lessons and insights, and all provided inspiration.    

Some of the discussion points were the federal government's work on reducing inflation, the next phase of the Quality Advice Review, risk mitigation, the risks of cyber security, the good and bad of AI, the acceleration of the pace of change, the challenges around public education and self-regulation, and a focus on embracing and embedding a culture of breach reporting.   

Di congratulated the industry award winners and thanked all the sponsors and exhibitors, particularly the Principal Partners Allianz, CGU, Vero, and Zurich.   

In conclusion, Di said: "There's no doubt that the pace of change is accelerating, and it's crucial for brokers to embrace innovation and think beyond traditional practices. We've seen plenty of energy and enthusiasm over the past couple of days, and hopefully, it left you feeling truly inspired and invigorated to get back to your office. We look forward to next year's NIBA Convention with the theme of 'Shaping Change' on the Gold Coast from 19-21 October 2025."
